about

Tune: The Athole Highlanders - for the 77th Highland Regiment raised in 1778

8 bars introduction + 4x24

8 Introduction
8 First 2 advance, 2nd 2 advance, turn partners to places
8 All 4 ladies dance one place to right (2 bars), all 4 Gents repeat (2
bars), all repeat (4 bars)
8 All promenade partners halfway around set to places and turn
partners

NB Some versions of the Caledonians have Pastourelle figure (4x32 bars). The figure is the same however from bars 9-24 the Ladies and Gents take 4 bars to dance one place to the right therefore taking 16 bars for this part of the figure rather than 8.

This recording is for the later Victorian Trenis version, rather than the earlier 40 bar version which had Ladies chain, set and turn partner before the First 2 advance etc. If you require a 40 bar version, contact us!

about

Green Ginger London, UK

Cas, Ian and Meryl have played together for over 40 years for English and Scottish country dance, ceilidh dancing and later for historical dance events,

We do a lot of research into historical dance music and are continually finding new dances to introduce into the dancing repertoire.

We always have great fun playing and hope this is communicated to the audience, be it dancers or spectators.
