This dance comes from Ignatius Sancho's 12 Country Dances for the year 1779

We have chosen to record this as a 24 bar dance, going by the original music and instructions. The original collection can be found online at imslp.org/wiki/12_Country_Dances_(Sancho,_Ignatius)

Original instructions:
Turn your Partner with the Right hand and cast off one Cu. - turn your Partner with the Left hand the Gentleman cast off the Lady cast up - set 3 and 3 top & bottom - set 3 and 3 sideways - the Gentleman strike the whole figure at bottom the Lady at the same time at top and foot to your partner.

Interpreted instructions (for a 3 couple set):
4 bars - 1s half turn right hands and cast into second place (2s step up)
4 bars - 1s half turn left hands and cast, Man down to finish between the 3s and Lady up to finish between the 2s
4 bars - All set, the 2s and 3s set twice while 1s set once and petronella turn left to 2nd place on own sides
4 bars - All set twice
8 bars - 1st Lady dances a reel of three with the 2s while 1st Man dances a reel of three with the 3s (in 6 bars) and cast to 3rd place (if in a 3 couple set) or remain in 2nd place and set (if in a triple minor formation)

Notes on interpretation:
1. The original starts with turn partner and cast off in 4 bars which is achievable with a full turn but then the second 4 bars would be a full turn and cast round to top and bottom which is difficult so we have interpreted these as half turns.
2. The original states the Gentleman and Lady strike the whole fgure top and bottom. Usually this would mean only the 1s dance the reel of three around the standing 2s and 3s. We felt a reel of three for all dancers was more fun and actually is easier to dance in 6 bars.
